Violet Sabrewing

This has to be one of the coolest names in the animal kingdom.  This was taken at the Hummingbird Garden in Monteverde, Costa Rica.  Unlike a butterfly garden the hummingbirds are not in an enclosure.  A cafe on the side of the road near the entrance to the Cloud Forest put out a few hummingbird feeders.  After a while all the birds seemed to have picked up on the feeders because when we got there we found hundreds of hummingbirds swarming all over the place. We must have seen between 6-7 different species including this one which was the largest of them all at 6″ long.
