Resplendent Quetzal (Not So Great)

These aren’t the greatest pictures, in fact they’re kind of bad.  BUT, the subject definitely makes up for it.  The Resplendent Quetzal is considered a critically threatened species.  These birds were revered by ancient mesoamericans.  They used their feathers in their headdresses in order to bring them closer to the snake god, quetzalcoatl.  Luckily for the quetzal it was a crime to kill the bird.  Instead the people trapped them alive, removed the long tail-feathers, and released the bird back into the wild.
